In addition to the BiblioCraft mod I created for Minecraft, I’ve also created and maintained a companion website to help explain the various elements of the mod. The website is based on WordPress with a custom theme that I developed from scratch. This is where I began learning PHP and getting more involved with JavaScript. I did some more advanced JavaScript features with my custom wiki pages for each block/item. Using the WordPress backend, it was easy to setup a bunch of options in the editor to just check of boxes and fill in basic info and let JavaScript and PHP handle the rest.
I attempted to have a small forum for awhile so people could communicate and share painting packs and stuff to be used with BiblioCraft. I quickly found it got overrun with bots and after google flagged my account a couple times for some of the stuff posted on the forum, I decided to just shut it down. It was too much effort to try to control the spam and delete that kind of stuff. I thought it was a fun idea, but that didn’t quite work out as planned.
The current revision of the website was done in 2015. This is the second layout I’ve done for the website and I’ve been very happy with this version. I don’t have any plans to make any changes to it, I am pretty satisfied. I am renting a basic Linux virtual machine on a remote server to host my website so that has given me quite a bit of experience with running Linux in a server situation.
